Muscatine has a progressive Fire Department staffed with full-time personnel who provide fire protection and ambulance services to the City of Muscatine as well as fire protection and hazardous material response to the surrounding area. STARTING SALARY:

Paramedic pay range is $57,331-80,533 (effective July 1, 2024) annually and carries excellent benefits including pension, paid vacation, paid sick leave, holiday pay, comp time, trade time, and health and dental coverage. Starting salary for EMT is $51,599 (effective July 1, 2024)

This is skilled fire fighter work performed as part of the Public safety operations of the City.

Work involves the performance of related emergency and non-emergency fire and medical duties in line with departmental operations, as well as maintenance of all fire fighting and medical equipment, building and grounds.  Work is performed according to departmental procedures and regulations and instructions received from a superior officer who supervises and evaluates work performed.  In the absence of a higher ranking officer, the fire fighter will begin operations according to standard firefighting practices and departmental standard operating procedures.

To be eligible for hire candidates must:

*Have or be able to obtain a CPAT card 

CPAT testing for Muscatine Fire Department will be held at Station 2 located at 2124 Stewart Road, Muscatine, IA. CPAT Orientation – Thursday 3/28/2024 at 6:00 p.m. or Saturday 3/30/2024 at 9:00 a.m. CPAT Practice Test – Thursday 4/25/2024 at 6:00 p.m. or Saturday 4/27/2024 at 9:00 a.m. (Candidates who pass the practice test do not need to report for the final test) CPAT Final test Thursday 5/30/2024 at 6:00 P.M. or Saturday 6/1/2024 at 9:00 A.M. Each candidate passing the CPAT will be given a link to take the written test online at a date to be determined.

*Have a minimum certification of Iowa EMT or NREMT (EMT certified candidates will be required to enter into an agreement to become certified as a paramedic within three years, in a course chosen and paid for by the City.)

*Pass a written exam as required by the City

*Pass physical and drug screen post job offer

*Establish residency within 30 air miles of Muscatine city limits within specified time period
